Summary


Citing a steady decline in enrollment through the past decade, coupled with severe financial challenges faced by the Archdiocese-namely the $660 million settlement with victims of the priest sex-abuse scandal-the decision to close the all male high school at the end of the current academic school year was accelerated.

"A further decline in enrollment would have resulted in the cutting back of the curriculum, negatively impacting the school's ability to offer a quality education to the students. This prospect, combined with the severed financial challenges now facing the Archdiocese, accelerated the decision to close the school in 2008."

No decision has been announced as to the future use of the school's property, which has been the site of various educational institutions for over 75 years, including Los Angeles College (a junior seminary), St. John Vianney High School (a college prep high school for, young men) and finally Daniel Muiphy (named for a pioneer Catholic businessman, industrialist, civic leader and philanthropist.)
