Assemblywoman Laura Richardson Announces Candidacy to Replace the Seat of the Late Congresswoman Millender-Mcdonald

According to her statement, she intends "to continue the legacy of her mentor, Congresswoman [Juanita Millender McDonald]," with whom she had a close working relationship. She is well positioned to continue the late congresswoman's work in Washington as she has so skillfully done in State Assembly occupying the seat previously held by McDonald.

"I've been working with the congresswoman for the past ten years and she was the first elected official that I worked for. She personally hired me." [Laura Richardson] told the Sentinel. "When I ran for city council (of Long Beach), she was very supportive and when I ran for the 55th assembly seat, she wished me well and was involved in my campaign."

"Send us somebody who has her character," [Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick] reportedly said, "Send us another leader. Send us a person of dedication. We need you all to send us another bad sister."
