"We've had a hard time in terms of trying to get [adequate] care. The other thing is we've had a difficult time trying to train a health care work force, which is diverse (on a national level). I'm interested in seeing that we correct that," she added.

"The whole campaign is really about health care professions. It's not just about doctors and nurses but allied health professionals. Perhaps what we may say to our children is, 'you can be a doctor or a nurse.' But it goes beyond that. The need is greater than just physicians and nurses.

"You have dentists, you have radiology technologists, you have physical therapists. There are 200 allied health professions, where there is a critical need for more people. People may not understand there are so many health professions that don't require an advanced degree, where you can get into some of them with a two year degree and where they are very well paid, and where you are going to be helping," she explained.
