Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces Hud Funds Awarded

Summary

With the many challenges that families have faced both as a result of the recent recession and, in many cases, long-term local economic issues, the ability for them to keep their homes despite financial difficulties has become a serious problem in a lot of communities, including many in the 37th District," Congresswoman [Laura Richardson] said. "One of my main reasons for supporting and voting for the Recovery Act was to be able to improve the lives of those families struggling to meet the basic necessities of life, such as a safe place to live. It is with that same thinking that I am working to obtain grants like this, because I know it will help hundreds of families in Long Beach, Carson, Watts and Willowbrook.

Congresswoman Laura Richardson recently announced that the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Depart-ment (HUD) has awarded $22 million to the City of Long Beach and additional millions to the 37th District counseling partner Los Angeles Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. The funds are a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) and are distributed as part of HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program, which requires the funds be used to improve the quality of and access to housing for low- and moderate-income families.
