We send our children to college so they can avoid such encounters. -Now they're being treated with the same suspicion on college campuses that they are being treated in the streets. What's the incentive of them going to college if they can't see a change in their quality of life-the most immediate of which is the way they're treated for trying to better themselves. It's a pretty sad dilemma for young Black males in higher education. They're racially profiled out of college, and they're invisible in college, and when the do appear-they're treated the same as if they were out of college anyway. A win-win for others is a win-lose or lose-lose for young Black men. They lose if they don't go to college-they're made to feel like they're losing if they do go to college. Society has to turn that around.
While a college education is an exclusive proposition for anyone in the top tier universities, Black males are even disappearing in colleges with open admission policies, the community college system. Fed by the nation's second largest public school system, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), LACCD would be well positioned to receive Black male students disproportionate to any other college system.See the full content of this document
