"Right now they're (Brown's family) not thinking about money," he said. "They're thinking about life...human life, making a difference and making sure that this does not happen again." The teenager was killed shortly before 4:00 a.m. February 6 when LAPD officer, [Steve Garcia], claiming self-defense shot ten rounds into a car he had been driving.

[Brown]'s family and community leaders joined the attorneys at the emotional press conference at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where Brown's funeral was held a week before. They denounced the "culture of violence," they said, that the LAPD perpetuates. "We're here today because we do not accept that," said [Brian Dunn]. "We're here today because we want answers. We want to know why this police officer did what he did."
