Towering at 6'4", dressed in his starched white lab coat, ready smile framed by his shoulder length locks, Dr. [Gustavus Aranda] will sit you down and ask you about other drugs you may be taking to ensure there are no life threatening combinations. Then he will educate you on what each medication does and why you need to take it. "Patient involvement in disease treatment is very crucial, thus the use of the term 'medication adherence' instead of 'medication compliance.' This is a team concept, involving physician and patient agreeing on what is to be done based on published guidelines," said Aranda. "Patients will typically take the medication when the value has been explained to them. When patients are educated, good things happen; they live longer, and we keep hospitalization costs down."

"Gus is such a welcome part of T.H.E.," said Donzella Lee, T.H.E. Clinic, Inc. interim executive director. "We have enjoyed all of the USC's School of Pharmacy faculty and students who spend time here, but Gus brings a special talent and concern for our patients and is very knowledgeable."
