After telling the Sentinel on Monday that she felt so confident they would have to catch her to win it, Los Angeles' newest golden girl Joanna Hayes burst past the field in the Olympic 100-meter hurdles setting a new Olympic record in winning the gold medal in 12.37 seconds on Tuesday in Athens.

"I'm just thankful to God," Hayes told the Sentinel before he left for Athens on Aug. 19th. "To get to the Olympics is very difficult."

Hayes gets giddy when discussing Olympic 100-meter hurdles champion Joanna Hayes, who will bring a gold medal back to Los Angeles when the games are over.
