The Tin Man went three furlongs at Hollywood in :37 for Richard Mandella, while Potrero Grande contender Greg's Gold worked six furlongs in 1:13 for [David Hofmans]. Bordonaro, also a Potrero Grande candidate, worked six furlongs at Santa Anita in 1:12.60 for Bill Spawr . . . Nearly half of the nine starters in Saturday's sixth race were sired by California-based stallion Unusual Heat: hot Grip, Master Heat, Ballistic Heat and Unusual Treasure. "He covered 80 mares last year and 60 this year," said trainer Barry Abrams, who has breeding shares in the 17-year-old Unusual Heat, currently standing at Old English Rancho. "Four horses by the same sire starting in one race is probably the most since (the late) Pirates Bounty," Abrams said . . . From 5,676 who started, there were only 28 contestants alive in Santa Anita's popular on line handicapping contest, ShowVivor II, going into Sunday's races.
