Mystery Clouds Death of West

Summary

An autopsy was deemed inconclusive this week on the body of Donda West, mother of rapper Kanye West, the Los Angeles County coroner's office said Tuesday. Preliminary reports suggested that West, who died Saturday November 10, suffered from complications of cosmetic surgery. She was 58.

West was said to have been filming a video in London at the time of his mother's death. He shared a close relationship with her, often referencing her on his songs. Dr. Donda West had been a Chicago State University English professor for 31 years, retiring in 2004 to help manage Kanye's career. In May of this year she published the book "Raising Kanye: Life Lessons from the Mother of a Hip-Hop Star."

Also according to news reports, another Beverly Hills cosmetic surgeon said he had recently refused to perform a procedure on West until she had a medical clearance for a condition he feared could lead to a heart attack.
