Unsung Heroes

REVEREND RALPH DAVID ABERNATHY (Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.) was inexorably linked to Dr. Martin Luther King in words, works and deeds. Wherever Dr. King went Abernathy was always next to him or close by. They had known each other since their school days in Atlanta but their relationship grew from the first mass meeting in the mid-1950s that became the Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA)-of which Abernathy was the vice president. They were close friends and lifelong partners in the Civil Rights Struggle; they remained inseparable until Dr. King's death. He died in Abernathy's arms.
