Summary
Martin Luther King, Jr./Drew Medical Center is definitely no exception. Known for its shock trauma center, King-Drew is considered one of the leading medical facilities when it comes to treating serious medical emergencies. So, for a hospital of this reputation and patient load, 60 hours is a long time for ambulances loaded with seriously injured patients to have to bypass the medical facility when minutes might make the difference in their outcome.
Much of the blame was put on the already overworked, understaffed emergency room nursing staff, many of whom called in sick or didn't show up for their shifts.
